"Preparing All Students to Succeed"

  • Congratulations to English teacher, Yvonne Allen, one of the Top 10 Finalists for UCPS Teacher of the Year.

  • Congratulations to clarinet players Olivia Jones (Senior) and Kyrsten Rudock (Sophomore) on their selection to the All State Honor Band.

  • Congratulations to senior Michael Macchiavello, State Wrestling Champion.

  • Marketing teacher, Dave Thomson, received the Clifton B. Belcher Professional Division Award for outstanding leadership, guidance, and meritorious service.  Congratulations!

  • Sophomore Sara Brun will represent North Carolina at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Envionment.  Sara was selected based on grades, an essay on the importance of using recycled materials for paper products, and a demonstrated interest in science and conservation studies.

  • Congratulations to two of our clarinet players, Olivia Jones (12th grade) and Kyrsten Rudock (10th grade), who were selected to participate in the South Central District Honor Band.  They are also both eligible to audition for the All State honor band in March.

  • Avery Philemon, a senior in Honors Theatre, has been selected to attend the Broadway Experience in NYC in April 2013.  Avery is one of 12 students chosen from the Mecklenburg/Gaston/Union area to participate in this experience. This free theatrical trip is sponsored by the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center with generous support from the Doctor Foundation.

  • The Sun Valley FFA Food Science team finished fifth in the National competition. Team members were Liz Keech, Amber Reed, Kayla Sumile, and Mackenzie Graham. Liz Keech was the 10th place Individual and received $400 in scholarship money. Three of the four members were gold level, which is the top percentage of the students competing.

  • At NCTC Play Festival this weekend, the SVHS Honors Theatre class had two wonderful performances. David McWhirter won an award for Best Comic Character, and Sutton Lea won an Execellence in Acting award as well.

  • Congratulations to Yvonne Allen, English teacher, for being elected as the SVHS Teacher of the Year for 2012-2013.
